Stress Less and Age Well
by Victoria Sheridan
Do you worry about living and working longer?
Many of us prepare for the transitions ahead, but divorce and bereavement are more common in older couples and we are often the sandwich generation, caught between the needs of our children and our older parents. Common concerns are whether we can continue to cope with the stress of high-pressure roles as we get older. And if we retire, how will we supplement our pensions, assuming we have them. Feeling vulnerable and insecure about our future income, we worry if it will last a long lifetime?

How can you be ‘Super Woman’ when you become ‘Older Woman’?
You can indulge in various kinds of pampering including youthful skin peels and facial fillers to maintain your youthfulness for as long as possible. You may feel the pressure in work and in relationships to not just appear 10 years younger, but to look, dress and behave 20 years younger. Do you already feel tired and weary and concerned that you will have the vitality let alone the money to maintain this?

Are your expectations for your future as realistic as they should be?
As a superwoman you juggled successful a career and business, young family, older relatives, and home. And whilst you were young, you were a great manager, leader, and diplomat, especially, in your world. With organised flexibility and copious amounts of abounding energy, you pushed yourself through the tiredness and effort, for the benefit of others and for your own self-esteem, self-fulfilment, and success.

However, you have, like many others, often felt out of balance and needed to adjust your physical, emotional and mental health. As you are getting older and you have secured the life you wanted for yourself, you most likely have an underlying feeling of unease when you think about the future. So, when you think ahead, in your mind what does your life hold for you? After years of working and caring for others, it probably feels like it should be time for you but some of that feels a little selfish so you may be feeling confused.

Consider these questions?
Have you got a clear vision of your future self will be like, your health, your vitality, your appearance, your home, your family, your wealth? How confident are you, that you can maintain your wellbeing, joy, and happiness? And will you have the emotional enthusiasm and physical energy to start anything new when the time comes to change your work or home?

You may find your answers to these questions help you to highlight whether you need to make changes now to secure your future lifestyle. Maybe your answers can help you gain clarity about how you can plan forward to achieve the future wellbeing and happiness you want for yourself.
